Last October, I was privileged enough to help host a star party at a local elementary school. One of the astronomers that was setting up next to me gestured toward the western sky and commented about the salmon color it was displaying. He explained that what we were seeing was the light coming over the mountains and reflecting off the clouds. The salmon color, he said, would only last a very brief time. And he was right.
Since then, I have been noticing the salmon sky whenever I would have the opportunity. This evening was one such chance. This is the view of the setting sun from my office in a tower in downtown San Jose.
